Their eyes connect in a dramatic look of love that leaves us, the viewer, longing for a similar relationship with Our Lord. Elisabetta Sirani is a fascinating woman, a painter from Bologna who started a school to train other women as artists. She herself was trained by her father and supported by a Count who was a family firmed and art critic, and was able to support herself, her parents, and her two siblings entirely with her art.
