Description The Divine mercy image was given to us by Jesus himself through St. Faustina beginning in 1931. Many times he would appear to her clothed in white, advancing toward her, with one arm raised in a blessing, and the other pointing to his heart from which two rays would shine forth – one red and one white – signifying the blood and water which poured from his heart after the spear pieced it on the Cross. He instructed Faustina to have the image painted with the words “Jesus I Trust in You” along the bottom. Jesus asked Faustina to advocate for the Sunday after Easter to be the Divine Mercy Sunday and he gave her the Chaplet to Divine Mercy which can be prayed on rosary beads. The symbolism of this image runs deep. Jesus advances towards us; He makes the first moves always, meeting us where we are, not expecting us to already be holier than we are. He blesses us because he is the One High Priest, who acts through His Earthly priests. He points to His heart, the symbol for His very self, His core which was pierced with a lance on Calvary. Red and white rays shine forth through the darkness symbolizing the blood and water from His pierced heart; red for the sacrifice of the Eucharist, and blue/white for the washing clean of our sins in the sacrament of Reconciliation. These rays remind us of the necessity of these two great sacraments which instantly bring us into the arms of Jesus. Lastly, the words “Jesus, I trust in You” cut right through the origin of Original Sin; a sin of distrust in the love and trustworthiness of God as our loving Father. Every time we say these words we directly combat all sin. Use this sticker or magnet as a daily reminder to trust more in the goodness of God.
