Our Lady of Lourdes – rosary

Description In this rosary, the colors of Mary’s garments are reflected in the beads – white and blue. The Our Father beads, besides being blue, are tipped with yellow-brown coloring on each side – reflecting the dirt and mud St. Bernadette dug through to reveal the miraculous stream. She is your Mother, she longs to help you carry the burden, to help you bring it to Jesus, to help you truly be healed. And remember that God decided to send his mother to a sickly, poor, illiterate, little 14 year old girl in France, to be seen by her and no one else in the crowd. God doesn’t reveal Himself to those who are worthy in the eyes of the world, He looks into the heart and draws near the humble. The centerpiece is a stunning depiction of Our Lady of Lourdes in the grotto with St. Bernadette kneeling by, and the crucifix is similarly detailed, mimicking the style of the centerpiece. Like most of my rosaries, this one is made from stone beads; white howlite as the Hail Mary beads. Because of this rosary is stone, it has a weight to it and retains the colder ambient temperature of a room, which really helps with focusing when praying. And then as you pray, the rosary gets warm from your body heat! _____ Mary, as Our Lady of Lourdes, appeared to St. Bernadette Soubirous on February 11, 1858 in Lourdes, France. St. Bernadette was just 14 years old, a poor, sickly girl. She barely knew the faith, being too poor to be catechized well. When Mary appeared, she did not announce who she was. Bernadette reported that she saw a bright light and a young girl wearing white with a blue sash tied around her waist, and a rosary draped over her arm. On her feet were a yellow rose apiece, and her head was covered with a white veil. Our Lady asked her to pray the rosary, which Bernadette started to do, and Our Lady kept track on her rosary, but did not say the prayers except the Gloria. She then disappeared. Upon telling her family, Bernadette was ridiculed, so she decided to return that Sunday, and then again the next Thursday, both times seeing Mary. During this third apparition, Our Lady asked Bernadette to come back every day for the next 15 days. During the next 15 days Bernadette faithfully returned to the Grotto. As each day passed more and more people would come, hoping to see the apparition as well. No one else ever saw Our Lady, though Bernadette’s face, was transfigured, becoming stunningly beautiful while she has the visions. In the apparitions, Our Lady asked for a church to be built at the spot, for Bernadette to dig a hole and to wash her face with the water from the fountain, and always to pray for sinners, though in most of the apparitions, Our Lady remained silent, following along as Bernadette prayed the rosary. During the 14th apparition, Our Lady asked again for a chapel to be built. Bernadette relayed the request to her parish priest, but he wanted some sign to know who this apparition was. In the next apparition, Mary revealed her identity by saying “I am the Immaculate Conception” – a title officially given to Mary only three years before, of which Bernadette would not have known about. Convinced of the apparition’s authenticity, plans were made to construct the chapel. Today there stands a three story basilica with a second chapel underground with the baths to bathe in the waters that sprung forth. Thousands of miracles of healings have been claimed over the years since (though only 66 have been officially investigated and deemed truly miraculous) ——— At 17 inches long, with 8mm beads, this rosary is roughly the same size as your standard rosary. The rosary is assembled with 49-strand steel beading wire, crimping beads, and wire protectors, so it is super strong. Because this rosary is made with stone beads, it has a weight to it and retains ambient cooler room temperate, which is really awesome to feel when you’re praying; it always made me focus more on what I was saying. And then as you pray the stones warm up from your body heat. Please remember that all things can break with excessive use. Under normal, conscientious use, this rosary will last a very long time, but, for instance, if you keep this rosary in a tight pocket every day, all day and get it crushed under you or against something, the small glass spacers can break and the steel wire will be under strain and can stretch and even break. These repairs can be made, and I would be delighted to do so, but as time goes on, I might not have extra beads or I might be gone.
